Prerequisite: Dogs must be nonreactive (aggressive displays) and be comfortable being in close proximity to other dogs and people in an active environment.
Nose Work classes are designed to develop your dog’s natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise. This class is sure to be lots of fun for your dog, it will help to build your dog’s confidence as well as the ability to focus and also burn tons of mental and physical energy. This sport is appropriate for the NW competitor or pet dog owner who just wants to have fun and give their dog more mental stimulation. Dogs that are shy, low-energy, high-energy, senior or physical limitations can benefit from this class. This is also an activity that is easy to set up at home so you have a great activity you can play with your dog any time you feel like it within your own home environment.
Please note that classes are structured so that dogs can work in their own search area area and we have a lot of flexibility to set each dog up for success. To accomplish this and to allow you to observe the other dogs in class, it is helpful that your dog is comfortable in a crate during class. This is all about the dog’s natural ability to work and learn at their own pace without any pressure from the handler.
For dogs 4 months and older, Rabies, DHPP (distemper-parvo), and bordetella are required before your dog participates in class and your dog must be current on all vaccinations and free of any internal or external parasites.
